More than 2,500 parents, relatives, AHRC staff, community supporters, and businesses advocate for people with mental retardation and other developmental disabilities through membership in Suffolk AHRC. As a member, you support our program participants and their families in a very important ways. Membership is our voice. Suffolk AHRC is one of sixty-two NYSARC chapters. The size of an individual chapter has a direct bearing on its influence with NYSARC, which in return has a direct impact on policies and positions which affect programs and services in Suffolk County. It's essential Suffolk AHRC continues to enlarge its membership for a stronger voice in our participants' futures. Although membership in AHRC is not required for a relative's acceptance or participation in AHRC programs, it is strongly encouraged for all parents, guardians, and relatives. Dues include membership in NYSARC, Inc. (formally the New York State Association for Retarded Children, Inc.), and the Suffolk Chapter. Members receive newspapers and news of research, education, and other activities. All memberships are annual.
